During the last month of spring from May 21st to June 20th, the sun lights up the constellation of the playful, multi-faceted Gemini. Gemini can be seen in the sky as the twins lit up by the stars Castor and Pollux. The mythology of Gemini essentially describes the separation of two brothers (Castor and Pollux) and the longing of the twin flame archetype to be reunited with their other half. Geminis are known as the twins because they represent the dual nature of light and dark, heaven and hell, male and female.

Gemini is the first air sign in the zodiac and represents a deep desire for human connection. The archetypes of Gemini include the lovers, the magician, the twins, the trickster, and the yin yang symbol (among many). Gemini rules multiplicity and dual meanings so don’t get so offended by their unedited rants, the Gemini has already moved on. They don’t have time to live in the past, they are messengers of the future. They are always on the move and change their direction often; giving them an arsenal of life experience to draw from and to tell their fascinating tales.

“Once in a while, you get shown the light. In the strangest of places, if you look at it right.”

Gemini is the fastest moving sign as it is ruled by the planet Mercury, inviting us to move in a more fluid nature and learn the art of multi-tasking. Gemini rules the central nervous system, the upper respiratory system and the hands and arms. Geminis favorite instruments are piano and guitar and often they are exceptionally dexterous and agile with their notably long or skilled fingers. You can find Geminis in the band rocking out, switching instruments, channeling genius melodies and words that can transcend time and space.

“If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine, and my tunes were played on the harp unstrung. Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own?”

Geminis are channels or webs of information, while often viewed as in their heads, their emotions are processed and created into feelings depending on what “channel” they are plugged into. They absorb and parrot information until they learn how to process and filter out the thoughts of others. Geminis can be linked to the image of a cell phone tower, receiving information, then processing it, and relaying it in a new way. Depending on how clear their processors are, they can reach highly abstract ideas and make them palatable for the masses. They are the original kings and queens of alchemy with one foot on earth and the other ready to fly away into the heavens. When they clear their minds, they create space for communicating with the gods.

“Sometimes when the cuckoo's crying, when the moon is half way down...

Sometimes when the night is dying, I take me out, and I wander around. I wander ‘round”

Phil Lesh, although a Pisces, has his moon in Gemini which is reflected accurately in his ability to shape shift into many roles and flow through his career with the ever evolving and cosmic lineups of the Grateful Dead.  Phil always had time to meet strangers, and kept his “heart of gold” open.

“The wind in the willows played tea for two, the sky was yellow and the sun was blue.

Strangers stopping strangers, just to shake their hand

Everybody's playing, in the Heart of Gold Band.”

The brilliantly silver-tongued Gemini may fib or gloss over the details in order to keep their reality open and buoyant. There is an unfiltered quality to their dark side which can come out like a stream of consciousness only to be buried and hidden for some time. They are the most misunderstood sign in the zodiac because their darker moments can have you questioning your own sanity. Geminis may spook themselves silly until they learn to separate the information of other sources from the information divinely lighting their own heart.

“The black-throated wind keeps on pouring in, with its words of a lie that could almost be true

Ah, Mother American Night, here comes the light, Goin’ around, that's what I'm gonna do..”

Gemini is the cosmic question mark that will twirl you on your head if you don’t have your feet firmly planted on the ground. The secret to Gemini is that their story is ever expanding and changing and therefore you cannot quite pin them down.  You can’t prophesize the prophet, so  sit back and soak in their light!

“California, A prophet on the burning shore. California, I’ll be knocking on the golden door.  Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light rising up to paradise, I know I'm going to shine.”

Geminis came here to ride the cosmic wave and make friends. They care about people more than anything else and yearn to fall deeply in love and hang out with their soulmates. Geminis can bring groups of people and ideas together and can create a lightheartedness in any situation. Gemini likes to dance through life, presenting a flexibility and adaptability that could pave the way for a more fluid lifestyle. Dancing on the edge of time, Geminis will always be one step ahead.

"... Everything we (the Grateful Dead) ever did was a demonstration of the value of cross-fertilization. It was unconscious at first, but when we started looking at each other, we had all these different influences... Bobby Weir used to call it electric Dixieland.” - Phil Lesh
