“The Healing Moon Protector”

During the first month of summer around the Summer Equinox, June 20th to July 22nd, the sun lights up the constellation of the moon mother, Cancer. The sign of Cancer stems from the latin word for Crab. Often found molting under the full moon, they shed their skins in the summer time to expand and grow. The crab teaches us the lessons of cultivating and protecting our ability to give and receive love. With sharp claws and a hard shell, the cosmic crab encourages us to tend to that which we love most and protect it with all that we have.

Cancer is the first water sign in the zodiac and represents the emotional and intuitive parts of ourselves. The cancer is the natural healer and can hold space in their cups or containers built strong with years of loving practice. Cancer rules over the lymphatic systems that flow throughout the body, cleaning and protecting our blood. The archetypes associated with Cancer are; the high priestess, the chariot, the moon god/goddess, mother, maniac and the healer. Cancers are the guardians of the sacred feminine; they have the keys to the locked doors of your subconscious.  They are the 2nd cardinal sign and are here to show us the power of emotions to manifest and persevere in whatever it is you want to accomplish.  Ultimately, they are here to open their hearts and pour their romantic visions into the world.

“If I was a bottle I'd spill for love, Sake of mercy I'd kill for love, If I was a liar, I'd lie for love

Sake of my baby, I'd die for love, Sake of my baby, I'd die for love”

Cancer is ruled by the moon. Much like the crab waits 13 days for their eggs to hatch, the moon cycles 13 times each year. The crab can teach us about true loving protection as they are born completely on their own and have to grow their shells in order to protect themselves in a beautiful cycle. The moon is perhaps the most influential planet next to the sun, moves every 2.5 days affecting the tides and reflecting back to us our emotional natures. Much of the work the moon does goes unnoticed and is behind the scenes. Like the ocean’s tides rising and falling, our emotions and intuition flow up and down depending on the moon phase.  Cancer teaches us that during the new moon we can plant ideas and seeds, and with the full moon we can release and shed our outer layers. Vessels and containers of water are used to conjure healing magic akin to the vessel of our body and oceans.

The beautiful thing about Cancer is that they embody resilience and the ability to go with the flow. They can flow beautifully and teach us to heal ourselves because they have worked so hard to build up their own strength and are here to share their hearts with us. America is a Cancer (July 4) and can represent the freedom and liberty that can occur once a solid foundation of care and security is established. Cancers are so often thought of as the doting mother or the obsessive girlfriend, but these are merely the negative or less embodied versions of the sign. The truth is that Cancer needs to learn boundaries and protection of their soft and flowing emotions in order to better help everyone around them. They usually are seen helping others without a need for recognition and prefer to work in the areas of healing, real estate, art, ancestors and archaeology.

Ooo, freedom, ooo, liberty Ooo, leave me alone, To find my own way home, To find my own way home, I’m gonna find my own way home”

Home is where the heart is, and Cancer is quite at home with matters of the heart. The loving crab wants to find their soul mate as early as possible and spend a lifetime of devotion and care with an equally dedicated partner.  Their polar opposite is the Capricorn, who could become their lifelong partner. Their ultimate gift is loving protection that comes from the ability to deeply connect with others. Cancers love children and tend to make the best parents because they provide so much care and emotional support to all whom come into the contact with them. The nostalgic cancer will always remember their loved ones favorite foods and songs to curate the perfect vibe. Jerry has his Jupiter and Venus conjunct in Cancer which gave him an enormous capacity to expand his heart and pour it all over those who experienced his performances.

“Hang your heart on laughing willow, Stray down to the water, Deep Sea of Love

Dark as the night, You’re still by my side, Shining side”

Cancer rules over the 4th house in astrology which describes the mother, safety, emotions, home, and roots. It is in this house we begin to build our own metamorphic home in our bodies and can build a platform of safety and care. The 4th house contains our memories of the past and our ancestors. Cancers require a bit more time to develop and come into their shells. The ultimate lesson to be learned here is how to nurture yourself beyond whatever you may have lacked in your upbringing to achieve true freedom.

“Heartless powers try to tell us what to think, If the spirit's sleeping then the flesh is ink

History's page will be neatly carved in stone, The future's here, we are it, we are on our own

On our own, on our own, we are on our own"

Cancers move around with grace and beauty. Much of their mystery and power cannot be understood at first glance. If they become exhausted in one-way relationships, they will burrow or maybe even show their sharp claws. Creating a cancer crisis of sorts. When a Cancer is gone unloved for long, what once was a social gift can turn to mania, as they can easily become the empath that needs to run off into the ocean for a few days until they gain control over themselves. Alone time is key for cancer as they will naturally heal everything they touch but need to remember themselves, too!

The moon, emotions and the watery containers that Cancer rules, will surely remember the solution to all the world’s problems. If we all take the time to listen to our inner voice and follow our emotions to their fullest conclusion and deepen our connection to care and compassion. We can all learn to ebb and flow like the Cancer to gracefully bring us to this present moment.

“There's a silver ocean, Silver clouds and silver sea, A bird on the horizon, Silver wingin' back to me”

Cancer is the storyteller of the zodiac and wants to sing the tune of the silver moon god/goddess who remembers every scent, sound and feeling buried somewhere deep beyond space and time. Cancers can remember the lyrics to every song and have a playlist for every mood. They want to indulge themselves in luxuries and savor the present. If you are lucky enough to know a Cancer be sure to lift them up and thank them for their loving service. So take a look at the moon and set out your moonstones, pearls, silver, and seashells and ask that the spirit of care emanate the silvery moon into your heart where it where it will shine forever.

“Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free, Dizzy with eternity

Paint it with a skin of sky, brush in some clouds and sea, Call it home for you and me

A peaceful place, or so it looks from space, A closer look reveals the human race

Full of hope, full of grace, is the human face, But afraid we may lay our home to waste”
